Stanway Rovers slipped into second place in the Premier Division table after a hard fought 2-1 home win against Saffron Walden Town on Saturday. It was Stanway’s 11th win in the last 12 league matches. On Wednesday they look to keep the run going when they travel to FA Vase heroes Ipswich Wanderers.
Game of the day in the Premier Division must have been at Summer Road where FC Clacton came away with a 6-4 win over Walsham le Willows. There were hat tricks oforboth sides – Andy Wood for Walsham and Aaron Condon for Clacton.
There was almost an historic start at Gorleston with Peter Lambert firing the home side ahead against Whitton United after 10 seconds, just one second later than the goal scored by Ally McKenna for Lowestoft Town at Haverhill Rovers in 2008. Gorleston went on to win 4-2.
Mildenhall Town continued their climb up the table by beating Kirkley & Pakefield 3-0 while Newmarket Town overcame Hadleigh United 2-1. The other two Premier Division games ended in draws with Long Melford twice coming from behind in sharing four goals with Swaffham Town while it was 1-1 at Brantham Athletic with Fakenham Town equalising in the second half.
